RECREATION

Gold Beach offers an ideal Coastal Oregon destination for outdoor recreation. Residents can choose from whitewater rafting, jet boating, kayaking, windsurfing, wilderness mountain hiking or biking, fishing and crabbing. In Curry County, residents can hike to waterfalls, head to the beach to surf in the Pacific, or camp in the Siskiyou National Forest or Harris Beach State Park. Explore the best tide pool areas including Agate Beach and Rocky Point North of Town, Myers Creek, and Lone Ranch Wayside to the South. Or if you are looking to hit the green, visit Cedar Bend Golf Association. Providing a beautiful setting with multiple sets of tees on each hole, Cedar Bend features a nine-hole and 18-hole layout.

EVENTS

Annual events keep the populace busy throughout the year. In the winter and early spring, Gold Beach offers whale watching, Pistol River Concerts, and the South Coast Writer’s Conference. In May the Annual Art, Seafood & Wine Festival beckons residents from around the county. Summertime features the Garden Club Spring Flower Show, the Party at the Port for 4th of July, the Curry County Fair, the Rogue River Salmon Derby, the Annual Salmon B. Jammin’ Derby, and the Indian Creek Barbeque. September features the Oregon Coast Cycling Festival, Gold Beach Brew and Art Fest and the Annual Festival of Quilts. To close the year, the event calendar features the Annual Calico Bazaar and the Christmas Community Bazaar.

EDUCATION

The Gold Beach School District offers excellent instruction and facilities for Kindergarten through grade 12, with an approximate Student Teacher Ratio of 17:7. The younger generation of K-8 is served by Riley Creek Elementary School and Gold Beach High School serves area teenagers. Higher education in the area is provided by Southwestern Oregon Community College, Rogue Community College and Southern Oregon University, to name a few.
